NHS London 2012 Olympic Legacy Team - Get Set Program

The NHS London 2012 Games legacy team are encouraging every school and college to support the official London 2012 Get Set programme for children and young people. Anyone from parents, governors and those working directly with education providers can help to spread the word about Get Set and the benefits of membership to schools/colleges.

Get Set Programme Brief summary

Get Set is the official London 2012 education programme for schools and colleges across the UK. It provides free learning resources for children and young people to find out more about the Games and explore the Olympic and Paralympic Values.

The Get Set Programme is the only way to access free tickets for the London 2012 Games and its test events. If your school or college registers for Get Set, then 1 in 8 of your pupil/students will be able to see an event for free. Schools/colleges have until 16th December 2011 to apply to be part of the Get Set education network and to become eligible to receive their allocation of free London 2012 tickets.

Get Set Programme - Themes

Get Set has eight themes that are designed to inspire children and young people though use of the Olympic values of excellence, friendship and respect and the Paralympic values of determination, inspiration, courage and equality. Themes include: healthier, more active and less sedentary lifestyles; peace and truce; physical activity and sports. Topics are designed to be adaptable and to encourage pupils/student of every ability.

Get Set Programme Registration, rewards and recognition

All schools/colleges that are taking part in activity linked the Olympic and Paralympic Values can access rewards and recognition from London 2012. Schools/colleges that become a member of the Get Set network (step 2 below) receive a plaque and certificate and the right to use London 2012 education logo on their website, school sign and letterhead. They will then gain access prizes like tours of the Olympic Park, visits from athletes, and visits from mascots.

Members of the Get Set network will also be able to access the London 2012 Ticketshare initiative. Ticketshare is the way that thousands of Olympic and Paralympic Games tickets will be distributed at no cost through schools and colleges around the UK. NHS London wants as many children and young people to be able to take advantage of this unique opportunity to see the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. To make this happen schools/colleges need to follow both of the following two steps:

Use the online form to tell the Get Set team about what the school or college has been doing to illustrate a commitment to the Olympic and Paralympic values, and what is planned for the future. Evidence of living the values can include describing how the school/college has participated in any of the Get Set themes and sponsored programmes. Completing this second step allows schools and colleges to access the member benefits including; Get Set plaque, certificate, Olympic park tours, and free tickets to the Games via Ticketshare.

Dont forget the cut off date is Friday 16th December 2011.
